In which she helps me decide

Next week we'll be going on vacation and since I'm a knitter, the most important aspect of the trip is what yarn to take.  Given that we'll be childless, and the husband's big plans are to drink, there will be plenty of knitting time.

One of the things I'm taking is a simple scarf.  I was picking out yarn and undecided between a green from Alpha B that I picked up at Sock Summit over the summer, and a dark red from Hazel Knits that I think I picked up at the Sock Summit 2 years ago.  Both are very pretty.  Lara was sitting on my lap, and I held out the skeins for her and asked her to pick one.  She stared at them for about 30 seconds, then patted the red one.  So that's what I'll be taking.

In which she's a basket case

This week we've had quite the winter storm (you know, for the Puget Sound), and since there's 6" of snow on the ground, and now an ice storm, we haven't left the house much this week.  Happily, we can work from home, and we've been tag teaming on munchkin care.

We took her out in the snow yesterday, watched the dogs run around, and as soon as you set her down, she started crying.  Not sure if it was the cold, or the weirdness of a world of white, but she wasn't a happy camper.

One of the things she's discovered lately is super fun to play with is the basket we keep the dog toys in.  She either thinks she's a dog toy, or just finds it fun to sit in a basket.

In which she's so happy to see you

When Lara wakes up in the morning, she'll bellow that she's up and you must come right now.  She'll continue to bellow, stopping to see if she hears anything, until you open the door.  And then you are graced with the cutest, shyest, but biggest smile.  It's as if she's saying 'Oh, did you hear me?  I'm awake, and so happy to see you'.

In which she is a cartoon

Lara makes this noise a lot. When she's pointing, when she wants something. It's a question, I think. Sounds kinda like, mmm? But the super cute thing is that she squints her eyes shut whenever she does it.

In which no one wins

It's Sunday and so it's football day. It's also now playoff season. And in today's game, no one wins (Broncos v. Steelers).

In which she sorts the mail

Lara likes to go through the ads in the Sunday paper, so when we got the Valpak in the mail I let her have out. Didn't get it on camera, but she kept throwing each ad up in the air and off the couch. Only once through the ads though. I handed them back to her and she gave me a definite 'what do I want with these' look.

In which she gets a milk bath

I think Lara has seen its shaking her milk to mix it up and decided it would be fun. We're discouraging it. She was a little surprised at the results.

In which she acknowledges the dogs

Lara has started doing this weird thing where she bows to the dogs. Head touching whatever she's sitting on, the ground, the couch. They are superior beings. Maybe only the very young give them their proper due.

In which Riley gets a milk bath

Riley likes to sit under Lara's high chair while she eats. Lara likes to pour her milk onto the table. Sometimes she misses and it drips off the table. Insert inevitable conclusion here.
Happy New Year!

In which she licks a wet nose

Lara and the dogs are on friendly terms. She giggles when they give her licks and they tolerate her smacking instead of petting. She is, however, also learning from them. Today, she stuck out her tongue and licked Riley's nose.
