I know I said I'd be posting pictures of the 'rents in their new sweaters TOMORROW (as in 5 days ago), but that didn't happen. I was having a good pout and didn't really get off the couch much. And then I started what should've been an easy house project, but isn't (as nothing is in this house). First though, the promised pictures. Both the 'rents loved their sweaters (and have been complimented on them) and here they are vamping for the camera. Click to embiggen.

I have good looking parents no? Sorrel (mom's sweater), is a Lousia Harding pattern and is made from Kimono Angora (which feels like heaven). Avast (dad's sweater) is a
knitty pattern and is made from Knitpicks Swish (which is splitty, but soft...and apparently quite warm).
I haven't constructed my 2009 knitting goals yet, although I'm pretty sure I hit my 2008 knitting goals. I know I have some goals for the 1st quarter, a handfasting scarf, a wedding blanket. Those must be done by March. One would think I should get started. Instead, I finally swatched for the round cardigan I bought for my birthday. Discovered it's not, in fact, knit in the round, but each circle is knit separately and GRAFTED TOGETHER. I'm going to be really good at that by the time I'm done. A little bummed I didn't start with 2 stitches and increase, but I'm not going to rewrite the pattern.
Last but definitely not least is the house project. I had been wanting to paint my office for quite awhile (it's currently a greyish green color that isn't bad, but is just light sucking). I have this bright granny smith apple green color. So i figured, couple days to paint the walls, 2 days to paint the ceiling (2 coats and all...the ceiling is currently the same color as the walls...boo). The previous owners had, at some point, but square acoustic tiles on the ceiling. The house is plaster, and in the room next store (the yarn room, very important), the finish layer of the plaster is peeling off. So I figured they'd seen that, been too lazy to scrape and fix (which isn't rocket science), and tiled over it (the tiles are cardboard, essentially). There was also this saggy bit directly over my desk which I admit to being suspicious about, but said 'We need to check out the ceiling...just take one tile down' (this was said to Mr.Monkey, who was on the ladder). We discovered that each tile was stapled, several times, into the ceiling...and so after one came down, they all came down. And we discovered this.

Lovely, no? I've spent two days this week patching the smaller holes and sanding (which i hate hate hate hate). As you can see in the picture on the left, the lath is showing, and so needs to be completely replastered. Good directions on how to do so
here. I gotta say though, I will be a plaster repair goddess by the time I'm done (I kinda made the holes bigger...nothing as fun as watching the ceiling fall to the floor and shatter), which is good, as there are 3 more rooms that have acoustic tile on the ceiling...and saggy bits. Weeee.
